Make Memories

About Audrey

Music has been a part of Audrey's life for as long as she can remember. After receiving her Bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance with Emphasis in Opera from The University of Texas at Austin, Audrey went on to attain her Master's in Music Therapy from Texas Woman's University.

She completed her music therapy internship at MusicWorx Inc. in San Diego, California. When her internship concluded, she was hired to continue working for both MusicWorx Inc. and its sister non-profit, Resounding Joy. During this time, Audrey also began teaching piano lessons. While she was sad to leave, Audrey made the trek to New York City to pursue a career in music.

In New York, Audrey taught group music instruction to children at an Upper East Side music enrichment studio. She also taught private piano, guitar, and voice lessons to children between the ages of five and 15 years. She also developed a curriculum and implemented a keyboard-based program for young, aspiring pianists between the ages of three and five.

In the fall of 2019, Audrey and her family moved back to Texas. She and her husband MJS have toddler twin daughters and a pup named Hobie.

Kind Words

  • Audrey is the most wonderful music teacher and the environment she has created is so welcoming for everyone. The classes are so enlightening and full of educational value for both kids and adults, and so much fun because dancing and singing along is always encouraged.

  • Backyard Music Class is such a fun, safe and warm environment to explore and learn. It was such a joy to get a front row seat to that kind of magic. Now, as I look back, BMC was truly a bright spot in those first years of being a mom.

    – Caitlin

  • I signed my son up for Backyard Music Class for the first time in 2020 thinking it would be great socialization, learning and fun for him. Turns out, it was my favorite day of the week, too! We both made dear friends and there’s just something about music that just fills everyone, young and old, with life and joy.

 FAQs

  • Every semester will have a different curriculum! Each week, you will be introduced to a new theme and a new large show & tell instrument. So, all classes on week one will be experiencing the same songs, instruments, etc. Come Monday of week two, a new theme will be introduced.

  • We are located in the Lakewood area. Classes are held in my garage in our backyard!

  • Click here - or if you prefer the wooden version here - to purchase the instrument package for classes (see photo below). (Please note that, for the younger students, we will not be utilizing certain instruments- e.g., harmonicas, recorders.) Should you forget your instruments one week, I will have a few extra for students to use!

  • I take Venmo, cash or check.

When paying via Venmo, please write the following in the note box: your child's full name, class chosen & semester. In addition, please pay as if you were paying a friend; choosing "goods & services" will take out a percentage fee.

  • Since there are only 12 weeks worth of classes, each family will be given two makeups to use within the year of purchase (this applies only to package purchases). All makeups must be communicated 24- hours in advance as to accommodate class size and maintain COVID procedures. If there are extenuating circumstances, please talk with me and we can work something out!

  • This semester, I am offering a 10% discount for participating siblings. This is geared towards families with multiples, or any younger/older sibling that plans to use instruments and be an active part of class! Need to bring newborn baby sister/brother to class while big sibling has fun? No problem! There is no extra charge for siblings that are just hangin' with their caretaker.

  • The Round-up Referral is a great way to save a few bucks. If you refer six or more friends for classes, or gather a group together to comprise one class, you will receive a FREE class, or ~10% off!

  • We are living in uncharted times, it's true. Navigating through a pandemic with kids is truly a challenge. I know how we are all doing our best to stay considerate of strangers, cognizant of the health of our loved ones, and mindful of the CDC and City/State guidelines. It's a lot! My goal with these music classes is to implement a safe and healthy environment for children to grow and socialize without the worry of potentially contracting COVID or any other illness.

Adults have the option to wear masks throughout class. Each class will have a maximum of 12 students - this ensures families will be able to have plenty of room to safely enjoy the music while not feeling overcrowded.

Antibacterial gel will be available for you to sanitize your hands before and after class.

Puracy brand multi-surface spray will be used on instruments all and surfaces before and after each class.

All individuals will enter through the backyard and not through the housing quarters. Should you need to use the restroom, a mask will be required.
